BILLY DREASE WINS BEST SOLO MUSICIAN AWARD

Critically acclaimed artist, musician and entrepreneur Edreys aka Billy Drease Williams added another trophy to the mantle last week after winning Buffalo Spree’s “Best of WNY” Solo Musician Award for 2009. On his blog at www.edreys.com, Billy Drease wrote “Thank you to everyone who has come out to a show, sang a song, popped a CD in your car, bought merchandise, read the blog posts and highly recommended me to the greater public.”

This marks the second award Billy Drease has won in as many months, after taking home an Artvoice “Best of Buffalo” award in May, and accentuates what is shaping up to be a banner year for the Buffalo born phenom.  In January he was named one of URB Magazines NEXT 1000 artists to watch; in April he released his CD “Good Evening Billy” to a packed house and last month he was a featured performer at the North by Northwest Film and Music Festival in Toronto. Currently he is gearing up for his annual “Art of Hip Hop” event series at the Albright Knox Art Gallery as well as the release of the debut album ‘Good Morning Amy”, both scheduled for the August 28 weekend.

BILLY DREASE at NORTH BY NORTHEAST

Billy Drease to play 2009 North by Northeast Music and Film Festival

Award-winning hip hop artist Billy Drease Williams has been selected to perform at this year’s North by Northeast Music and Film Festival in Toronto, Canada. Every year, over 500 acts from around the world perform for 70,000 music fans and industry delegates at 40 clubs and outdoor stages during the four-day, four-night festival. Close to 2500 industry delegates convene for panels, interviews, and seminars, while the best music-related films are screened throughout the festival, which is recognized worldwide as a key opportunity to build profile and make connections within the music industry.

Billy Drease—who recently won Best of Buffalo and Best of Western New York honors bestowed by The Artvoice and Buffalo Spree, respectively—is ecstatic about having been selected for yet another high-profile appearance. Last year, he was a featured performer on Van’s Warped Tour and on WBFO’s “On the Border” live-to-air concert series.

Billy states, "It's an incredible feeling to have my music recognized by the Artvoice and the Buffalo Spree, especially considering that Hip-Hop is frequently overlooked and misunderstood. It's always been my goal to change the atmosphere and climate of this genre by staying true to myself, and I'm excited about the opportunity to showcase my talent in such a strong and prominent neighboring market and venue as Toronto and North by Northeast."

Starting at 11pm, Billy Drease Williams will be performing a 40 minute set on Thursday June 18 at the Harlem Restaurant; located at 67 Richmond Street East in downtown Toronto. We’d like to invite any and all NXNE attendees to stop by and experience first-hand why this artist has been called “one of the most promising artists in our region” by The Buffalo News and garnered features from Billboard, Myspace, Youtube, and many more.

In conjunction with the Food Bank of WNY and multiple grassroots community organizations, DTR45 announces a free food drive benefit concert and fundraiser.

In response to a plea from the Food bank of WNY for much needed food donations, socially motivated recording company DTR45 announces a food drive courtesy of a free concert.

This event will take place on Saturday December the 27th 2008, 9pm at Broadway Joes (3051 Main Street) and patrons are being asked to bring canned goods or monetary contributions, in return for free admission, a free double CD and free giveaways courtesy of Scion and New Era Caps.

All acquired donations and collections will exclusively benefit the struggling Food Bank of WNY and non profit organizations like Buffalo First, PUSH Buffalo and more. By showcasing more than a dozen like minded local artists and a few national artists, we hope to spread the notion of goodwill to the community through clean, positive and socially responsible music.

The day before, Friday Dec 26th 2008, a community based fundraiser Holiday Movement Dance will be held at Ujima Theatre on Elmwood Avenue. This event will serve as a fundraiser for the Partnership for the Public Good in conjunction with several esteemed grass-root organizations: PUSH Buffalo, Buffalo First, MAP, Coalition for Economic Justice, Buffalo Re-Use, and more.
At DTR45 we believe that art and music can be positive life influences, so we strive to set the precedent and help the less fortunate in our community, especially during economic uncertainty. We hope to teach the public about social responsibility, as this is a sentiment echoed by the artists, performers and our nationally acclaimed organization.

Thank you.

More information about these charity events is available online at www.dtr45.com or by calling 716-873-2151.

DTR45 Announces Latest Roster Additions -Buffalo, NY

DTR45 announced today the signing of two prolific hip hop artists from different sides of the continent. Bay Area based emcee Paulie Rhyme, who has had a working relationship with DTR45 since 2000 and has toured with the label several times (including 2006’s Guy on the Couch Tour and 2008’s Green Giants Tour), recently signed a multi-year management deal which includes touring, promotion and publicity efforts.

Paulie Rhyme, born Paul Richardson, is one of the hardest working indie acts in the industry, having toured consistently for 3 years on several continents, founding his indie imprint Browntown Wreckords, and releasing several projects to high acclaim—both as a solo act and with groups Public Radio and Finless Brown. He also recently started the new group, Miles Outside; a cross genre, boundary-pushing band which describes itself as an aural explosion enveloping every musical genre you've experienced glued together on hip hop construction paper using an alternative paste. Says Paulie Rhyme: “I have worked with DTR on and off since 2000 first in Cleveland and then in the Bay. I have watch the company evolve, grow, and find success while staying true to themselves. We are both dedicated to making quality music, increasing our presence on the national scene, and taking our message to the next level. After working for years as separate entities, it felt right to take the next step and make our relationship official.”

Also signing a multi-year deal is Ottawa-bred, Montreal-based emcee/producer Devin Atherton. Using his surname as his stage, Atherton is a consummate professional and has taken the Canadian scene by storm. A one-man hip hop machine, Atherton currently writes, produces, and performs all of his own music; has toured extensively, received several awards, and been featured at Candian Music Week and NXNE. Founder of his imprint Vinyl Tap Music, Atherton is partners with Toronto-based duo The Leathers with cohort P-Brain. The duo will be releasing a leather-bound 7” record in 2009. Atherton commented, “I knew that this was the right step for me considering the amount of effort and work Tone and DTR45 have already put in for me. I’ve heard that the hardest thing in the world to do is to find someone who believes in you. DTR45 believes."

Peace Peoples! Once again, Youtube has graced DTR45 and Edreys with a feature on our latest video. If you haven't yet checked it out, head over to Youtube and watch the fully animated clip for Edreys' latest single "GET FREE". This time around we're featured in the film and animation department, which is a testament to the truly groundbreaking nature of the video.

You can also download the song off of Itunes OR pick it the CD in our Store

--------

As America is witnessing the change of the guard, as is Hip-Hop. Enter artist Edreys aka Billy Drease Williams with the perfectly timed release of the new hit single "Get Free," an anthem for change, for reflection and for action. What also makes this hit single so groundbreaking is the video may be the first of its kind, as this animated video was entirely hand-illustrated by the artist himself, truly making it unique with his own vision, artwork and direction.

"Get Free" is a visual masterpiece married with Edreys' uncanny command of the rhyme in which he communicates that no one is without flaw or without vice but as a collective everyone can independently and interdependently "break the chain" and GET FREE!

DTR45 Announces Rebel Radio 4

BUFFALO, New York — Independent record label DTR45 announced plans for the 4th installment of the original compilation series Rebel Radio. The widely acclaimed mixes—the previous three editions having reached over 45,000 fans worldwide—is a free-to-the-public release and has boasted a wide variety of musical talents as well as chart topping radio singles. The series, which has attained a large dedicated online following, has become a fully digital effort, with physical copies only made available through the artists featured on the project.

Rebel Radio 4 will be mixed by DJ Anubus (Brad Piersons) and coordinated by Covert (Joe Vasquez), producer of the Buffalo hip hop group, Fresh Guac. As with each of the preceding compilations, Rebel Radio will focus tracks around a common theme. “Being that times are tougher now that they have been in a while, we’re looking to bring an encouraging message and feeling with this installment”, states Vasquez. “Songs that are up-tempo, funky and fresh; and that really bring people back to that positive house party vibe.”

If you are a hip hop artist interested in placing a track on the compilation, please consider the above theme and send an mp3 of your submission to rebelradio4@deepthinka.com. The deadline for all submissions is November 1st 2008. If you have questions regarding the compilation, please feel free to us contact at the same email or call the DTR45 Compound at 716 873 2151.

Canned Food Drive Added to The Art of Hip Hop Weekend

DTR45 announced today that a canned food drive will now be held in conjunction with the "Buffalo Art of Hip Hop Festival". The weekend-long extravaganza will be kicked the evening of Friday, September 26 at the Albright Knox Art Gallery, featuring a number of events, workshops, showcases, and demonstrations.

"We have received a great response from the community in support of this weekends events- artists, activists, organizations, media and local government - so we want to make sure we give something back", DTR Founder Tony Caferro commented. Patrons attending any of the events are encouraged to bring a canned food item, which will be donated to the Food Bank of WNY and Compass House. The label has a history of holding food drives around the holiday season, but as Caferro pointed out, "Today more than ever, many families are feeling financially stressed all year round, especially here in Buffalo. It's important that everyone contributes what they can."

Anyone making a charitable donation will be registered for a chance to win one of the many prizes supplied by the events' sponsors, which includes New Era Cap, Xtreme Wheels Skatepark, Sakora Art Supplies, and of course DTR45.

"CLASSICS" is.... classic! and the buzz is getting louder...so be sure to pick up your copy of the joint that is changing the "mixtape" game!
Just check some of the latest press, from RAPREVIEWS.com
as reviewed by Jesal 'Jay Soul' Padania

This is the mixtape I've been waiting for - and for a long time at that. In fact, it has nothing to do with the artist Edreys (pronounced "E-Drease") but more to do with the selection of beats - straight CLASSICS! It helps that the MC is really rather bloody good. This review will be devoid of any clever shit, as I'm buzzing off this mixtape too much, so let us get into it quick sharp…

So take one wicked MC, throw him over a bunch of truly legendary beats, and watch him do his thing. The only real negative I can come up with about "Classics" is that it is apparently "mixed" by DJ Lo Pro - this really isn't mixed, and is actually quite poorly put-together in places. Aside from that, there is so much gold to mine from just an hour - and so many memories to be evoked. I'm talking "Children's Story" and "Warm It Up, Kane." I'm talking "Ain't No Half-Steppin'" and "Paid In Full." Even ones like "Public Enemy No.1" which you may have forgotten about, and just make you let off an internal "Oh shit!" - those kinds of beats.

What's more is that with that level of instrumentation underneath Edreys' sneaks, you're positively waiting for him to screw up - he doesn't give you the satisfaction. Line after line of dopeness: punchlines, kicklines, stories, re-interpretations, he can ride over most of the tracks flawlessly. Perhaps his voice isn't immediately identifiable, but everything else is. More than anything, however, he is EXCITING. Sure, a bit judgmental, but you will sit up and take notice. Edreys is an MC that takes his art seriously, and one hopes that he can kick on from this and construct a great album - riding over classic beats is one thing, but CREATING classic beats is another. I'm not the biggest fan of mixtapes - they either have to be expertly constructed (e.g. DJ Green Lantern's stunning work on Nas' "The Nigger Tape") or just hijack straight FIRE beats. This one belongs to the latter, and foregoes modern music in favour of tried and trusted beats with twenty years of vintage.

I'm not sure if anyone has done it like this before, and it would only really work with an MC that truly loves that 1988 vibe - it never sounds disingenuous, and Edreys does a magnificent and innovative job from start to finish. I never give mixtapes Classic rating (9.0 or more) - unless they only comprise of original music - but this is one that has run the closest thus far. I just hope he hasn't set the bar too high for his forthcoming debut album "Good Morning Amy." Safe to say I'll be copping that, and you shouldn't hesitate about picking this up pronto.
