The long-awaited video for Billy Drease Williams’ “Shut the Gate” is finally here. The first single off his new album, Good Morning Amy, features a ground-breaking collaboration of hip hop, rock and classical music, provided by hip hop renaissance artist Billy Drease and classically trained pianist, Richie English.

“It’s a total fusion of two entirely different musical worlds, which is a very rare thing. An actual 19th century harmonic and musical framework fused with hip hop’s very literate, fluid words and ideas”, states English. “There’s a synergy between Billy Drease and I. He totally changed the way I think about music.”

The Kevin Lopez-directed video was a featured selection at this year’s Buffalo Niagara Film Festival and received with a standing ovation at the GMA Launch party in Buffalo. Featuring a cast of children, the video recreates the premise of “Shut The Gate’s” lyrics; one of heartbreak, love lost, and confidence regained. Filmed on a small farm in Western New York on a clear bright autumn day, many of the videos scenes are suggestive of green screen or color saturation technologies, when in fact the video is completely au naturale.

English goes on, “It was freezing; absolutely freezing, but we knew when we were there that we were really blessed. It was an absurdly beautiful day.”
